Tribute to Paquita la del Barrio in CDMX

Mexican singer Paquita la del Barrio passed away at 77 years old in her hometown, Veracruz. She will be honored at Casa Paquita, a restaurant in the Guerrero neighborhood that bears her artistic name. Founded by her in the 1980s, the place became a meeting point for artists such as JoaquĆn Sabina and Luis Miguel.

Paquita's representative announced that there will be two tributes in her honor: one on February 19 in Alto Lucero, Veracruz, and another on February 21 in Mexico City. The cremation will be held privately, followed by public tributes. The singer had health issues in recent years and passed away in her bed, reportedly after suffering a heart attack.

Paquita la del Barrio was married twice and had three children. Known as 'the Queen of the People' or 'the Guerrilla of the Bolero', her songs reflect her fight against the macho culture. During her career, which began in 1970, she stood out with hits like 'I Deceived You Three Times', 'The Advice', and 'Women Rule'. In 2021, she ventured into politics by running for a local deputy in Veracruz with the Ciudadano Movement party. Over more than 50 years as an interpreter of ranchera music and boleros, Paquita la del Barrio left a legacy that transcends borders.
